How
does you media product represent particular social groups?
The way different social groups are represented in media products is important because it can lead to certain stereotypes and create an image for that certain group. I have represented young artists within my magazine some commercial and some just amateur, these artists like the target audience will be in the ages of 16-28 and that is why the audience is able to relate to them . Below is a screenshot showing the comparison between the famous pop artist Justin Bieber and the actor I chose to use in my magazine Alex Kerr :
The image shows some strong similarities and differences between the two actors . First of all the similarities are that they both have the same strong , confidence , positive body language , this represents young people as being positive through the way these people are photographed being positive in photos. In addition, they have similar hairstyles , if a magazine is shown to have a lot of actors with a similar look they are presented as being fashionable and following trends , this will then impact upon the audience as they will want to follow these trends and therefore get their haircut to.
However, there are some differences between the two , one of which is the music industry, Justin is a famous pop artists and therefore has no real relation to my magazine other than his styling , because my magazine is an indie magazine therefore its a different genre. Also they both have different styling again due to the genre of music.
